Kenya is endowed with a massive fresh produce,Thus its cuisine takes on its own unique personality through the use of native spices and local ingredients. You will discover a balance of different flavours cooked in healthy dishes. Uncomplicated,simple and healthy choice of ingredients is what defines Kenyan basic culinary Culture. Kenya offers a variety of delicious foods in a variety of cultures practised by different communities. Wherever you visit, you will discover the ethnic heritage of Kenya in their local dishes.Apart from the coastal part of Kenya with lots of influence from the indians and arabs , most communities have there meals prepare with low fat or others none. However the use of dairy products like fresh milk cream , sour milk, blood is commonly used.
Although, there are numerous delicious Kenyan dishes,, i have picked few popular and delicious local foods you mustn’t miss to try
1. Ugali

Ugali is the most popular food in Kenya. Ugali is a staple starch cornmeal made with maize flour. In most cases ugali is served along with a saucy beef made of onions and tomatoes , mushroom or fish stew plus green leafy vegetables such as terere , spinach,sukuma wiki or mchicha
2. Pilau

Spicy mutton Pilau.
Kenyans like eating Pilau – absolutely delicious. Pilau consists of rice flavoured with spices cooked in stock meat, chicken or fish. Most Kenyan Pilau meals are made with goat meat.Pilau is popular with the Coastal parts Kenya. Usually served with a side gravy, banana and kachumnari
3. Kenyan Chapati

Kenyan Chapati with saucy stew.
Chapati is Kenyans’ favourite bread for most meals. Chapati is very easy to make. It is made with white flour, salt and oil. Chapati is an anytime food.Kenyans eat Chapati for breakfast,lunch or even dinner with a tasty stew of choices or kachumbari. A truly delicious meal!
4.Whole fried tilapia

Scale the fish, rinse and wipe dry. Make several deep cuts diagonally across both sides.

Heat oil in a pan and slide in. Allow to brown for a few minutes on both sides. Cook until crisp and golden brown. Remove from heat and serve with salad and top with a tomato gravy or spice it up with curried sauce .

I love eating my fish With ugali(But still goes well with rice,chapati or irio.

6. Matoke

Matoke is one of the staple dishes in Kenya.

Matoke is known as a variety of green bananas.

The meal is made with banana, which is cooked and mashed into a meal. It is served with flavoured sauce. Extremely tasty and mouth-watering!
7. Nyama Choma

Kenyans surely love their Nyama Choma.

Nyama Choma is a grilled meat and it is barbecued over an open fire and usually eaten with ugali or irio/mukimo and kachumbar. (tomato and onions salad) drizzled With lemon juice.Get your mbuzi and marinate slightly with black pepper,salt,garlic-ginger paste preferably overnight in a refrigerator.

8.irio/mataha

Irio is a delicious local dish, which consists of potatoes, peas and green vegetables. Sometimes corn is added as an ingredient. Irio is sometimes served along with grilled steak – Nyama choma and the combination is normally called Nyama na Irio.
9. Githeri

Githeri is a common Kenyan dish which mainly consists of maize and kidney beans. Maize and kidney beans are usually boiled and stewed. Githeri is nutritious and richly delicious.
10. Maharagwe

Maharagwe – a delicious Kenyan Red Beats stew cooked in Coconut milk. This delicious meal is made with red beans and other spicy ingredient. Some people cook the red beans with chicken seasoning instead of coconut milk.

Beans in many intances is cooked in the simplest form,i.e fried onions, tomatoes,curry powder and finished with chopped dhania.
